What’s With The Pineapple?!!
The generic name of pineapple “Ananas” was derived from an Indian name, “Nana”, meaning fragrance. The first explorers thought the fruit resembled a pine cone and it came to be known as “Pine of the Indies”. “Apple” was added by the English to associate it with juicy delectable fruits. The nutritional benefits of pineapples are as attractive as their unique anatomy. “Pineapples contain high amounts of vitamin C and manganese,” said San Diego-based nutritionist Laura Flores. These tropical fruits are also a good way to get important dietary fiber and bromelain (an enzyme).
Once I started drying pineapples, I wanted to see if we could preserve all that we had from it no matter how small so we do not waste it. During this process, we also are able to convert the pineapple another product altogether.
I found out a few things about the peel or skin in the process. The pineapple skin contains antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anticancer properties. It is also an excellent source of antioxidants that can help the body to fight free radicals, which can cause numerous diseases. It relieves Inflammation. Finally, a nurse once told me that post surgery, boil the skin of the pineapple and drink it everyday. It cleans out all the toxins in the body and prepares your insides for a cleaner you. I have been doing that since. She was right. So when next you think about just eating the insides of the pineapple, think about the different benefits drink the skin!!
